Village Advent Celebrations 2019. December 9th. The Chestnuts, Little Street.

December 10th, 2019

No baby in a manger this time but the message is the same – “No Room at the Inn”. A remarkable simulation of a homeless person sleeping in a cardboard box. The reality of this situation was brought home to onlookers when the sleeping bag moved. There was someone in it – a volunteer whose elbow can just be seen. The theme of this window provided a timely reminder that not everyone is out partying for the 24 nights of Advent.

Village Advent Celebrations 2019. December 8th. Littlecote, Little Street.

December 8th, 2019

Twelve panes of glass in the chosen window at Littlecote – hence an opportunity to illustrate “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, a traditional English carol dating from the 18th century, with appropriate music for the party goers.

Village Advent Celebrations 2019. December 6th. High Barn, Manor Road.

December 6th, 2019

Tonight’s window celebrates the presence in the village of an albino squirrel, frequently seen in the garden of High Barn. A little internet research suggests that these squirrels are relatively rare with perhaps a 1 in 100,000 chance of seeing one. Such a sighting is reputed to bring good luck!

More pictures (including the actual albino squirrel) on the next page (Click on “read the rest of this entry”).

Village Advent Celebrations 2019. December 5th. 8 Spinners Cottages, Magpie Road.

December 5th, 2019

For the early evening party goers of the village the Christmas Season is now well under way. These little “get togethers” are of short duration and form a sort of “aperitif” to later evening activities (the mulled wine helps!) Above all they present an ideal opportunity for those newer to the village to mix with longer term residents in a very informal way.

Village Advent Celebrations 2019. December 1st. Christingle Children’s Service at the Church

December 1st, 2019

A beautiful solo rendition of “Holy Night”.

Once more the Village Christmas Advent Celebrations begin with the Christingle Children’s Service at the Church. The idea of this service came originally from the Moravian Church in 1747 as a symbol of Christ’s light and love. The Children’s Society introduced it to the Church of England in 1986, and it has since become a popular service for all ages. This was the 30th service in the Church of St James the Less in Sulgrave. All money collected goes to the good work of the Children’s Society with the least fortunate of today’s young people. See the next page for more photographs.
