The Star Inn Advent Calendar window opening coincided with Donald Taylor’s 90th birthday. The Taylors are a very old established family in the village, as can be seen from this sad memorial in the church to five children of the family who died of scarlet fever. Donald is well known in the village, especially for his tireless work on behalf of the Royal British Legion. See here for details of a Remembrance event involving Donald in 2018.
After a rousing rendering of “Happy Birthday to You”, Donald retired inside to the bar for a drink with old friends.
“I’m giving this one to the dog……”
“Woof!”
Opening time at the Star is faithfully recorded.
There were once two inns in Manor Road (formerly known at Great Street), the Three Compasses and the Star. Both can be seen in a wonderful photograph taken by Leicester photographer S.A.W.Newton 120 years ago. Click here to see details from this photograph.
