Report and photographs by Graham Roberts:

Another good turnout from Sulgrave gardeners this year ensured the Church Hall was bursting with fruit, vegetables and flowers on the Autumn Bank Holiday week-end.
With 29 villagers entering there were 150 items in 37 classes to be considered by the judge, who expressed delight with the variety and standards attained.
The youngsters contributed with their entries of a Miniature Gardens on a Tray, Biscuits and Decorated Fairy Cakes.
A damp and rainy day did little to affect the enjoyable day, with tea and cakes served in the church hall after the judging was completed and the awards made. All proceeds after costs incurred from the event went to the Church Hall funds.
Photographs on the next page show the high standards achieved.

Northants Police seeking volunteers for “Parish Special Constable”.

August 13th, 2015

a15.08.13.01a

Adam Simmonds, Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire, aims to appoint a Parish Special Constable for each village in the County. He says: “This is an exciting new role giving individuals the chance to be involved in making a real difference within their own community. Parish Specials work with regular Police Officers and Parish Councils to make sure that the issues that are important to the local community are resolved. They patrol the area in uniform speaking to people, providing reassurance and discouraging crime. Parish Special Constables are able to provide a genuine and sustainable solution to almost every issue that makes residents feel unsafe. The role aims to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour that doesn’t make the headlines but can make lives miserable“.

Flag lowering ceremony at the end of a wonderful day of 4th July celebrations in bright summer sunshine. Sulgrave Manor was bought by the British American Peace Committee in 1914 to be a symbol of peace between the two countries. The Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814, which brought to an end the war of 1812. The Manor is therefore one of the most appropriate venues outside the States at which to celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. On Friday afternoon 22nd May the inhabitants of Magpie Road suddenly found fire engines and police cars outside their houses.
