Village Advent Celebrations 2018. December 8th. Hill Farm House, Manor Road.

Now exactly one week since the first event, the unveiling of the transformed bus shelter. This remains brightly lit thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers who take it in turns to collect the lamp and replace it after charging the battery. Now on to this year’s topical window!

SOME NOTES ON HILL FARM HOUSE AND ITS FORMER OCCUPANT, RECYCLED FROM A PREVIOUS ENTRY.

Hill Farm House in about 1910.

For many years after the war, Hill Farm House was the home of Fred and Edie Golby. Fred farmed land to the north of the village and was a regular member of Sulgrave cricket team until its demise in the early fifties. He was also a keen billiard player and member of several league winning teams.

Just before I took this photo, the eastern end wall of the building suddenly and mysteriously collapsed into the yard overnight – a village “seven day wonder”! It was rebuilt in brick, as can be seen in the next photo:
