Construction works will soon commence on the High Speed Rail Line (HS2) which will be less than1500 metres from the nearest house in Sulgrave. Visit Sulgrave Manor on Thursday October 12th to find out more.

A team from HS2 will be available to explain the proposals and answer your questions, between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm at Sulgrave Manor on Thursday October 12th. A representative of the Parish Council will be present, together with Councillor Peter Davis of South Northamptonshire Council (Councillor for the Washington Ward which incorporates Sulgrave). Tommy Gilchrist, Parliamentary Assistant to our Member of Parliament has also been invited, as he leads on HS2 matters for Ms Leadsom and she is unable to attend due to a prior engagement. Please put the date in your diary – if you are at all concerned about or interested in the construction of the new line, this is your chance to learn more.

Members of the public are now able to contact the HS2 helpdesk team using a new Freephone telephone number. All calls are free of charge from UK landlines and mobile phones. The new number is 08081 434 434. This number can also be found on the government website www.gov.uk/hs2

There is also a new Freephone mini-com number for callers with hearing and speech difficulties. This number is 08081 456 472.

    The Parish Council will be sending a representative to the event to get an update on assurances we sought and secured during the passage of the HS2 Bill through the House of Lords. During the House of Lords stage of the Bill, David Walker acting on behalf of the Parish Council petitioned the Lords committee regarding traffic numbers and road safety.

    HS2 undertook to keep us updated on alternative plans they were developing to reduce construction traffic by removing large amount of material along temporary ‘haul roads’ along the line of HS2 rather than on local roads. If this were to happen it would significantly reduce construction traffic and would be a major win for residents.

    It is also worth noting that all the existing roads to Sulgrave are shown on the plans as remaining open during construction, some on slightly diverted alignments, but all usable throughout. This point was clarified during the House of Lords petitioning and some details are in the HS2 evidence submitted.
