Apologies for re-cycling information about Forge Cottage from last year!
The cottage in 1961. A large opening can be seen behind the shrub on the small “green”. Since closed up, this was once the entrance to a wheelwright’s shop. In former times he cottage was the home of George and Jessie Taylor. In the 50s and 60s it was universally known as “Aunt Jessie’s”. George and Jessie can be seen in the extract below from a wedding photograph in the early thirties. (Note the magnificent elm trees which were common in and around the village before the Dutch Elm disease of the 1970s. Click here for more on this.)
